Born in Leicestershire, Richard trained with an international firm, spending seven years in Jamaica. His specialisms within his Ely office portfolio are the audit of limited companies and charity accounts.

He is an ardent supporter of Cambridge United, where he is the Treasurer of the Vice Presidents' Club. He is also a keen golfer and Rotarian. He has previously served as President of Ely Rotary Club.
